Identify a case study from pages 21-31 to discuss as a group.
Choose a recorder and a facilitator for the discussion of the selected case study.
As you read, look through three lenses:
What evidence of “unifying” the school exists? What is next?
To what extent does the scenario reflect double-loop learning?
What evidence exists to support challenges to mental models?
Individually read the case study, looking through each lens. Record your initial ideas to share in your group discussion. Allow everyone time to read and start to find evidence.
The facilitator will then use the “go around” approach, asking each member to share examples, citing the text of the case study.
When each member of the group has shared, discuss your ideas and insights to what else or what is next to continue unifying, engaging in double-loop learning, and challenging mental models.
As time allows, discuss one or more of the following questions:
How do you engage in on-going “unifying” at your site?
How have you experienced double-loop learning as a leader?
How do you challenge your own mental models as a leader?
Be prepared to share your group’s insights when we debrief together.
