Purpose for School

Individually (10 minutes)

1. Reread page 107, where Fullan shares what he believes are the most important purposes for school. Take note of those that you agree with and those that you see evidence of in your buildings.

2. Read this article (or click to listen if you have headphones) from the World Economic Forum (WEF) about what the youth (globally) are saying they need from schooling. Take note of those that you agree with and those that you see evidence of in your buildings.

In your discussion group (20 minutes)

1. Have each person share the points they agree or disagree with from page 107 in the text and the WEF article.

2. Then, discuss the following questions:

   1. Where do you see overlap in what the youth say they need and what Fullan shared?

   2. How are each represented in your building? Where could your building improve?

   3. When you connect back to your vision and goals, how do the purposes of school align?

Individual Reflection (10 minutes)

Complete the graphic organizer in your Efficacy Notebook based on your initial thoughts on the readings and the insights gained from your discussion.
